Following the academic restructuring of education faculties in accordance with the decision communicated by the Presidency of the Council of Higher Education in its official letter dated 15 July 2016 and numbered 8244403-299-2528-42497, our Faculty’s Department of Turkish and Social Sciences Education currently comprises four divisions: Turkish Education, Social Studies Education, Turkish Language and Literature Education, and History Education. At present, the Divisions of Turkish Education and Social Studies Education are actively offering educational programs. Educational activities in these two divisions continue through four-year undergraduate programs, two- to three-year master’s programs, and four- to six-year doctoral programs.

Our students are educated in an environment that includes classrooms equipped with technical support such as smart boards and flexible seating arrangements, which allow theoretical courses to be delivered through a variety of teaching methods. Well-equipped computer laboratories are used in our programs for information technologies courses. In addition, relevant courses such as teaching practice, community service practices, and volunteer work are carried out in middle schools under the guidance of the experienced academic staff of our department.

By combining theoretical education with practical experience, the Department of Turkish and Social Sciences Education aims to educate teachers who respond to the needs of today’s learning and teaching environments, possess the competencies determined by the Ministry of National Education, closely follow developments in their field and current scientific studies, love their profession, and serve as role models for their students. As the Department of Turkish and Social Sciences Education, one of our priorities is to contribute to teacher education in theoretical, practical, and research dimensions, while taking students’ interests and needs into consideration, as expected from teacher education programs.

The mission of the Department of Turkish and Social Sciences Education is to conduct scientific studies that support and improve the distinctive structure and content of our education system by taking into account the social, cultural, and demographic characteristics of our country while following global developments in the field. In light of these studies, the department aims to educate teachers who know their students and their needs more closely and who have both the competence and determination to meet those needs.
